The Philippines’ pride, Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao, added the WBC Lightweight crown title to his belt by defeating former Olympian David Diaz via a technical knock-out in the remaining 39 seconds of their ninth-round-bout held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on June 28th, 2008 (June 29th, in the Philippines).
This makes Manny the first Filipino and only Asian to win four World Titles in four different divisions. He is now fondly called the “Mexicutioner” by Filipino fans after successfully beating the Mexican triumvirates, Erik Morales, Juan Manuel Marquez and Marco Antonio Berrera. Pacquiao’s previous seven matches all had been victories over Mexican fighters.
“I was thinking, this guy doesn’t hit so hard, and then all of a sudden I’m on the floor going, “What the f**k?!”
Congratulations, Manny Pacquiao! Mabuhay ka!
